How it works

Three ways to shape what you hear

Put on headphones, turn on feedback and start talking. Adjust the settings until speaking feels easier.

DAF

Delayed feedback

Your voice comes back a fraction of a second later. Many people who stutter find that a short delay slows their speech and makes it smoother.

0–250 ms

FAF

Pitch shift

Hear yourself slightly higher or lower, up to 12 semitones either way. Some speakers find a different-sounding voice easier to talk along with.

Adaptive

Adaptive mode

The app listens for held sounds, repeated starts, blocks and fast speech, and raises the delay toward your maximum. While you speak fluently, it eases back to your minimum.

FAQ

Good to know

Do I need headphones?

Yes. The app only starts when headphones are connected. Playing your voice through the speaker would cause acoustic feedback (howling), and the delayed sound should reach only your ears.

Do Bluetooth headphones work?

Yes, but Bluetooth adds around 100–250 ms of delay that the app can't remove, so what you hear arrives later than the delay you set. Wired headphones give the most accurate results.

Is Speech Beach a medical device?

No. It's a practice tool, not a medical device. It doesn't diagnose, treat or cure stuttering, and results vary from person to person. For assessment and therapy, talk to a speech-language pathologist.

Does it record my voice?

No. Your voice is processed in real time on your device and is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.

How much does it cost?

Speech Beach is free to download, with a 60-day free trial of every feature. After that, a one-time purchase (US$1.99 or the local equivalent) unlocks it forever. There is no subscription, and nothing is charged automatically when the trial ends. Your purchase supports our research and development and keeps Speech Beach updated, secure and easy to access.

Please note: Speech Beach is not a medical device and does not replace a speech-language pathologist. Individual results vary.
